“Children thrive in environments where they feel safe, secure, and supported. ”

I began my career in early learning in 2014, the same year I started at The Learning Sanctuary Gisborne. My passion for early education stems from my love of learning and my desire to inspire children to embrace new challenges. I enjoy encouraging children to explore, play, and build. Children thrive in environments where they feel safe, secure, and supported. This understanding guides my teaching style, which focuses on creating a nurturing space for children to learn and grow.

My goal is to have a lasting impact on children by nurturing their individual talents and personalities while supporting their overall growth and development. I am committed to helping them on their learning and life journey by fostering a love for exploration and self-discovery.

At The Learning Sanctuary Gisborne, we pride ourselves on our play-based curriculum, which allows children to lead their own learning. Here, they can question, observe, explore, and have fun while building strong, lasting bonds with their peers and educators. It is an honour to have families entrust us with their children’s care, and we strive to provide an enriching and supportive environment.

Our team is highly qualified, and our educators are our greatest asset. They continually build on their own learning and development alongside the children to ensure we provide the highest quality of care. We always advocate for children’s development and safety, bringing a little magic into each child’s day.

We support our families by offering an extensive and thorough orientation process, allowing time to build a bond with our team before leaving their children with us. We maintain strong relationships with families through meaningful daily conversations, regular updates on their child’s progress, and sharing in their child’s joy.

I look forward to welcoming your family to our early education centre in Gisborne and answering any questions you may have.

Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Gisborne, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

Sustainability

Our sustainability initiatives include using recycled items for crafts and a collection of loose pieces for construction. We also maintain a worm farm and compost system, teaching children the importance of protecting the environment.

Social and emotional learning

Children develop a strong sense of identity as they feel safe, secure and supported, building confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. Through group activities, conversations and play, children learn to interact with others with care, empathy and respect, building positive relationships and friendships.

Language and early literacy

Children develop early literacy through storytelling, books, songs and meaningful conversations. Educators support children to explore language in many forms, including speaking, listening, viewing, drawing and writing, while building confidence communicating with others.

Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

Age-appropriate early learning

We provide learning experiences tailored to each stage of your child’s development. Our programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and designed to support children’s wellbeing, confidence and growing independence.

Our kids have been so happy and we have seen how supported and cared for they are. They've made lovely friends and developed great relationships with lots of the carers and educators here. We love the outdoor space and the amount of time the kids get for freeplay outside. Their interests are supported and their individual needs catered for. I've been impressed by their 'school readiness' skills that they have been helping the kids with in 4 year old kinder.

The staff are all so amazing and honestly as soon as you see the yards you will be sold. It is such an amazing place for a child to play, explore and learn. I have worked in childcare in the past and never saw anything like what they offer here. It is like a home away from home and I am so comfortable knowing my son is safe and having so much fun with amazing people.

Our children are all very happy and comfortable in each of their rooms. The attention to their needs, care and genuine connection educators/carers have with our children is exceptional and we have never found it difficult leaving our kids there for the day. The centre itself is great, with enormous, separated yards for each different room. The centre recently went through major ground works for the yard of each room, updating play facilities and aesthetics of the centre. As part of the care at the centre the children are provided excellent meals from the in-house chef, where any dietary requirements are catered for. Lastly the Learning Sanctuary are always looking for ways they can add value and convenience for parents. Two of the most beneficial of these have been the haircut service, where a hairdresser attends the centre, approximately every 6 weeks, and for a small fee will cut our children's hair. The second service is the attendance of a dental van, which is claimable on private health cover. Both of these are fantastic time savers for us. The last initiative they've started is a parents night out, the centre opens from around 7-9:30 for children to attend and watch movies/play/sleep while parent can have a bit of a night out. There are many other areas of the centre that are positive and although we have another childcare centre closer to us we have not considered it due to the level of satisfaction we've had at The Learning Sanctuary.

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Learn more about our Settling-in Program.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

The Learning Sanctuary uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, The Learning Sanctuary is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
