Childcare and kindergarten in Footscray, VIC

The Learning Sanctuary Footscray offers long day care and a kindergarten program for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, conveniently located for families in Footscray, Seddon, Coode Island, Yarraville, West Footscray, Kingsville, Kensington, Flemington, Ascot Vale, Maidstone and Maribyrnong.

Spacious outdoor environment

Children can explore a shared outdoor environment with a bike track, three sandpits and climbing frames. Age-appropriate equipment for younger children supports active play, movement and confidence in ways suited to their stage of development.

Indoor spaces with natural resources

Indoors, children learn in spaces filled with natural resources that encourage exploration and play-based learning. These environments give children opportunities to investigate, create, build independence and take part in group and individual experiences.

Long-term team of educators

Our diverse team of educators and teachers speak multiple languages, helping support smooth transitions and communication with families. Many educators have been with the centre since it opened six years ago, creating consistency for children and families.

Individual Learning Plans

Individual Learning Plans are developed in partnership with families, reflecting each child’s strengths, interests and developmental goals. Educators use these plans to guide learning experiences that suit each child’s needs.

Government-approved Kindergarten program

Our Government-approved Kindergarten program is delivered by Bachelor-qualified Early Childhood Teachers. Children build confidence for school through play-based learning, routines, friendships, early literacy, numeracy and growing independence.

School transition support

A local primary school teacher regularly visits our kindergarten children to support their transition to school. These visits help children become familiar with school routines, expectations and relationships before taking their next step.

Monthly walks and weekly sports/music

Children take part in monthly community walks, helping them explore familiar places and build connections with their local area. Weekly sports and music programs add movement, rhythm, creativity and group participation to the centre program.

Healthy meals and family updates

Children enjoy nutritious meals throughout the day, with menus planned to support energy, growth and wellbeing. Allergies and individual dietary requirements are catered for. Families can stay connected through our family app, with updates about routines, play, learning and centre experiences.

“I strive to provide a warm, nurturing, and safe environment where each child feels loved and secure.”

I’ve been working in Early Childhood Education and Care since 1998 and have worked as a Centre Manager for 16 years. From an early age, I knew I wanted to work with children. I love being part of their lives, watching them grow and develop into confident individuals. I strive to provide a warm, nurturing, and safe environment where each child feels loved and secure.

What makes our centre unique is our team of qualified educators. They are passionate, caring, and have amazing relationships with all our families and children. Our Kinder teacher runs an exceptional program designed to support children’s development in social, emotional, language, literacy, and numeracy skills, fostering joy in group activities. Additionally, we offer daily Spanish classes conducted by one of our educators in the Kinder room.

At The Learning Sanctuary Footscray, your family will be heard, loved, and supported. I look forward to welcoming your family to our early education centre in Footscray and answering any questions you may have.

Our innovative early learning programs

At our early learning centre in Footscray, our play-based curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), supporting children to learn through play, exploration and discovery.

Sustainability

We promote sustainability through regular visits to recycling centres and the use of recycling trolleys in our foyer, allowing children and staff to repurpose items in their programs. Our herb gardens supply fresh ingredients for our meals, teaching children the importance of environmental care.

Community engagement

Children and educators regularly go on community walks, visiting the local train station, supermarket, Bulldogs playground, and library. Our local primary school teacher visits the Kinder children throughout the year, helping them with their transition to school.

STEM

Educators introduce open-ended materials and invitations to explore, such as building, measuring and experimenting. Through shared conversations and investigation, children develop curiosity, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Music and movement

Our evidence-based Rhythm and Movement for Self-Regulation (RAMSR) program is designed to develop fundamental skills that help support children’s self-regulation, memory, and concentration. It is an innovative approach to holistic learning, development and well-being in early childhood.

Age-appropriate early learning

We provide learning experiences tailored to each stage of your child’s development. Our programs are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and designed to support children’s wellbeing, confidence and growing independence.

They have a very low staff turnover which means the children know them all really well – and they know your kids and what they like/ don't like. Staff are particularly beautiful and caring and handle tricky drop-offs so well. Communication is excellent, and the manager goes the extra mile to help you out when you need extra days. It definitely made returning to work easier knowing they were at a place where they were genuinely cared for and loved. A huge thank you and we miss you X

Outstanding daycare, my daughter has been enrolled since she was 9 months (she's now almost 2.5 years old). I am genuinely bowled over at her development, she's learned so much and I know this is in part down to TLS. Every educator is friendly, attentive and kind. The centre is incredible, especially the outdoor area, I love that all the rooms connect to the outside so the children can all interact together. The food provided is super varied and healthy! Centre management are also lovely and know all the children by name. Book a tour, it's well worth it!

She has never come home from childcare before and immediately asked if she can go back! The staff are incredibly warm and every time I go in I see children in their arms. The kinder staff are exceptional and I can’t wait to see how she develops next year. Communication between the centre and parents is excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending the centre to anyone who is looking.

See more Highly recommended! Our little girl spent 18months, 5 days a week at TLS, from Nursery to Toddler then Pre-kinder rooms. the wonderful team there provided a fun and loving learning environment, we were constantly impressed by her learning and development. The educators all knew her name and showed her lots of love, and definitely helped her come out of her shell and develop some special friendships. We only left because we moved house, and very sad to say goodbye – I’m sure Summer will have lasting happy memories of her time and the team there ❤️ Thank you all ❤️

See more Our son has been attending for three months in the Nursery room and we have been overwhelmed at the effort the educators and management have made to help him settle in – right away from the Orientation sessions, to helping us from a two- to a one-nap schedule, right to this day. Everyone knows his name and are knowledgeable about how he has been doing. The activities and special days are varied and age-appropriate. We get regular updates and photos on the app with how the day is going and what activities have happened. As a parent I feel listened to, both in quick chats with the educators on drop-off/pick-up, but also via email contact with the management when needed.

Frequently asked questions

A centre tour is a convenient way to experience the childcare centre of your choice and meet with our qualified educators at a time that is suitable for your family’s schedule. Click here to book a tour online.

On the day of the tour, you can observe practices and interactions within the centre environment. You’ll be able to see all the rooms and playgrounds, ask the team members any questions you have in mind, and get all the information you need to make the best decision for your child.

Enrolling is simple, and our Family Support Team will guide you through each step.

First, find your local centre and book a tour so you can meet the team and explore the learning environment. If the centre is the right fit and a place is available, you’ll receive an enrolment offer for your child. If a place is not currently available in your child’s age group, we can add your child to the waitlist and keep you updated.

To finalise your enrolment, you’ll complete an online enrolment form through a secure link sent by our Family Support Team. You’ll also need to provide key details and documents, including your child’s birth certificate, Medicare details, immunisation history statement and, if eligible, your Child Care Subsidy details.

Before your child’s first day, you may be invited to attend a Stay and Play session. This gives your child time to explore the centre, meet their educators, and start feeling comfortable in their new environment. Once your paperwork is complete, your child is ready to start their early learning journey with us.

Read our step-by-step guide on how to enrol here.

Starting child care is a big milestone, and a little preparation can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.

Before your child’s first day, you can talk positively about their new centre, explain what their day might look like, and practise small routines such as packing their bag, saying goodbye, washing hands and sitting down for meals. You may also like to visit the centre with your child, meet their educators and ask our team about what to bring on the first day.

When your child starts, our educators will take the time to get to know your child’s routine, interests, comfort items and individual needs. Settling in looks different for every child, so we work closely with families to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Learn more about our Settling-in Program.

Most of our child care and early education centres offer nappies and wipes, sunscreen and hats, as well as nutritious meals prepared by our in-house cook. Some centres also provide sheets and formula, so you may not need to remember to pack them.

For nursery children, be sure to bring: nappy rash cream, dummies, bottles and teats, comfort toys or blankets, three spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

For toddlers and preschool or kindergarten-aged children, it’s best to bring: spare underwear, water bottle or sippy cup, sun hat, closed-toe shoes, two spare outfits, spare socks and a plastic bag for wet clothes.

Plus, anything else your individual child may need, such as breast milk, a sleeping bag, a comforter or medication.

It’s best to speak to your centre of choice for a full list of everything included.

The Learning Sanctuary uses Xplor Home as our family communication app. It is the best and easiest way to keep track of your child’s day.

After you enrol your child with the centre, you can utilise Xplor Home to book child care days, manage your account, receive the photographs that capture your child’s learning, learn about your child’s progress, as well as keep up-to-date with upcoming centre events and important information.

If your child shows signs of an infectious illness when they arrive at the centre or becomes sick during the day, you may be notified that you need to make alternative arrangements or pick up your child from the centre and keep them home until they are no longer infectious. While we understand that this can be inconvenient, The Learning Sanctuary is committed to maintaining a healthy environment and reducing the risk of infection for all children.

Under the Child Care Subsidy (CCS), families are allowed 42 absence days per child, per financial year. These can be taken for any reason, including public holidays and when children are sick, without requiring families to provide documentation.
